Bulkhead & Seawall Repair in Portsmouth, VA

Hampton Roads Bulkhead repairs and replaces bulkheads in Portsmouth, Virginia. We work the Elizabeth River waterfront, the Western Branch, and the creeks that run back off them, from the historic Olde Towne seawalls to the residential lots upriver.

Portsmouth's waterfront is old, and a lot of its walls are too. Along the Elizabeth River the tide is brackish and the harbor wake is constant, and behind Olde Towne's seawalls and the neighborhood bulkheads the same failures repeat: a cracked cap, a leaning face, a sinkhole where the yard has drained out through the wall. The Western Branch coves are quieter water but the same aging timber.

We rebuild the wall itself. That means new anchors for a leaning wall, a rebuilt toe, new sheet pile where the face is gone, and compacted backfill under a new cap, not a tank of polyurethane pumped into the ground by a foundation franchise. On a sound wall with a failed cap or section we splice the repair to the line of the wall so it reads as one structure.

Work below the tide line in Portsmouth runs through the Joint Permit Application to the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, the Army Corps, and the city wetlands board. We handle the permit side for what we build.
